Marshmallow Burning, take 2

Here is an updated flames video for the marshmallow with a smoke trail added. I also put a background color that was similar to the cart color to see the contrast.

I've talked to Jon to to match the flames of the flamethrower so we are going to composite both of them together soon!

I reduced the heat/fuel to reduce the blocky look.

  1. Hi Megha, I think that the blockiness looks much better! One question, are you animating the texture at all? (there are options to either animate the origin in any direction or also animate/vary the noise over time). The reason I ask is that it feels like the noise that the fluid is travelling through is static (either that or it is moving but moving too fast through it). You might try and keyframe the Y value of the noise origin and try and match it to the speed of the fluid rising. (don't let it move too fast. but I think that will help the connection between the fluid motion and the noise.) I think the progress looks great though. One option you might do once you have things finalled, is to actually render the flame thrower and your marshmellow flames together in the same render. that way they will mesh together properly than if they were composited together separately. Anyways, Great Work!

  2. One other thought. Make sure that the smoke doesn't go 100% black. If you make the smoke color 100% black, it won't light when you put your light on it. It would be nice to have self shadowing on the smoke part and make sure it is light from the same lighting direction as your key light. You'll need to make sure that self shadowing is on under the lighting tab of the fluid box.
