Hey Jon, it looks like it's coming along. Did you decide to go for a different look on the initial flame thrower? I remember some of those early shapes you showed were really cool and detailed. This looks good but just wondering if you changed your art direction. As for the dog, it feels like some noise is moving through it at a fast speed and is also not reacting as much as you'd expect when he gets picked up. You might want to add additional drag fields. Good progress though!
I agree with Dale and would also add, You might want to try a non-fluid technique for the initial flamethrower blast, this one doesn't seem to have enough velocity coming out of the nozzle. Perhaps a simple particle sim with a lot of motion blur, optionally adding a bit of smoke with the fluid. The burning dog sim you can probably achieve with the fluids.
Jon, one other comment. Don't forget to look back at your original reference when you guys torched the stuffed animal. The scale on the fire on that was really nice. It might be good to try and hit some of those shapes from your reference. ;-)
